GoHighLevel A2P 10DLC Registration (2026): How to Get Approved for Missed-Call Text-Back and Business Texting

Short answer

To text US customers from a regular local number in HighLevel, including missed-call text-back, you must register an A2P 10DLC Brand (who is sending) and Campaign (what you send and how people opt in) under Settings, then Phone System, then Trust Center. Businesses with an EIN register a Standard Brand. Single-person businesses without a Tax ID use the Sole Proprietor path, which is limited to one number. As of October 2026, Low Volume registration is $22.50 one-time plus $1.50 to $10.50 a month per campaign, and the fees start when you submit, whatever the outcome. Most rejections come from mismatches between your legal name, website, sample messages, and opt-in flow. After approval, link each number to the campaign and confirm it shows "A2P Verified."

This guide is based on official vendor documentation, pricing pages, and primary sources as checked in October 2026 — not on client deployments of our own. Full disclosure.

If you turn on missed call text back in HighLevel and your texts never arrive, the cause is often A2P 10DLC registration. US carriers require businesses to register before sending texts from standard 10-digit local numbers, and HighLevel's docs say a text-back can fail if no number in the account is eligible to send SMS (HighLevel: Missed Call Text Back).

This guide walks through the registration as HighLevel documents it in October 2026: which brand type to choose, what to prepare, the exact Trust Center steps, how to describe a text-back program so reviewers can verify it, what it costs, and why campaigns get rejected. It's based on HighLevel's help center, not on registrations we've run ourselves, and it isn't legal advice. Carriers and their registration partners make the final call.

What is A2P 10DLC, and does missed-call text-back need it?

Yes. A2P 10DLC is the carrier registration system for business texts sent to US recipients from standard 10-digit local numbers, and HighLevel's own help article says it covers "appointment reminders, customer-care messages, account notifications, marketing messages, and other application-generated business communications" (HighLevel: What is A2P 10DLC). An automatic text-back sent by HighLevel is an application-to-person (A2P) message.

Registration has two parts:

  1. Brand: who is sending. Your legal business identity.
  2. Campaign: what you send, why, and how recipients agreed to get it.

You need both. HighLevel says brand approval alone doesn't let you send messages.

Toll-free numbers are different. They don't use A2P 10DLC brand and campaign registration. They go through a separate toll-free verification process. Canadian numbers have their own rules depending on where you text and when the number was bought.

Should you register a Standard Brand or a Sole Proprietor Brand?

Register a Standard Brand if your business has an EIN (or another accepted tax or registration number). Use Sole Proprietor only if you have no Tax ID and just one employee (HighLevel: Registering Your A2P Brand).

Standard Brand Sole Proprietor Brand
Who it's for Businesses with an EIN, Tax ID, or Business Number Individuals or one-person businesses with no Tax ID
Phone numbers Multiple 1 number per campaign
Daily volume Low Volume up to 6,000 segments/day; High Volume up to 600,000 Up to 3,000 segments/day
Email Business-domain email recommended Must be a public email (Gmail, Yahoo, Hotmail). Business domains aren't accepted
Verification Legal name and EIN must match IRS records (CP-575 or 147C letter) A US or Canadian mobile number that can receive a one-time code. VoIP numbers aren't accepted

Two rules that trip people up. First, if you have a Tax ID, you must use Standard, even if you're small. Second, a Sole Proprietor account that buys several local numbers can hit error 30034 when texting, because only one number can be linked to that campaign.

What should you prepare before you start?

Have your legal details, a live website with a privacy policy and terms page, and a clear description of your real messaging and opt-in flow ready before you open Trust Center. HighLevel's checklist (What is A2P 10DLC):

Area Prepare
Business identity Exact legal business name, EIN or accepted registration number, business type, industry, registered address (no P.O. box in the street field)
Authorized contact Name, reachable phone number, monitored email, job title. This person may be contacted to verify the brand
Website Live, public, and clearly the same business as the brand, with contact details
Messaging purpose Use case, a plain description of what you'll text, and realistic sample messages
Consent How people actually opt in, the consent wording they see, message frequency, HELP and STOP instructions, and links to your Privacy Policy and Terms

For US businesses, uploading your IRS CP-575 can fill in the legal name, EIN, and address automatically. HighLevel warns that EINs issued in the last 15 days may be rejected because the data hasn't reached verification systems yet, and that DUNS numbers aren't accepted.

How do you register A2P 10DLC in HighLevel, step by step?

Register from Settings → Phone System → Trust Center in the sub-account that will send the texts. These are HighLevel's documented steps (What is A2P 10DLC; Campaign Registration guide):

  1. Open Trust Center and click Start Registration under A2P Messaging (SMS).
  2. Answer the Get Started questions: where the business is registered and whether it has a Tax ID. This picks the Standard or Sole Proprietor path.
  3. Enter brand details exactly as they appear on official records, then the business address and an authorized representative.
  4. Complete verification if prompted: either Persona identity verification or a one-time code sent to the brand email. You get three attempts and two resends for the email code.
  5. Pick the messaging volume. Standard Brands choose Low Volume or High Volume. Sole Proprietors get single-number registration.
  6. Choose Chat Widget Setup or Manual Setup. Chat Widget Setup is the default. It installs a HighLevel opt-in widget on your site and pre-fills the campaign description, sample messages, and opt-in text. Switch to Manual Setup if people opt in some other way, such as an existing website form, paper form, lead form, QR code, kiosk, or verbal consent.
  7. Fill in the campaign: use case, website, description, sample messages, opt-in method and wording, and Privacy Policy and Terms links.
  8. Click Review Application. HighLevel runs an AI compliance review. Fix anything it flags, click Review Again, and submit once every check passes.

Once a campaign is Pending, wait. HighLevel says not to create a second campaign just because the first is still under review.

How should you describe a missed-call text-back program?

Describe exactly what happens, in plain words that match your website and sample messages. HighLevel says the description should explain who sends the messages, who receives them, what is sent, and how contacts opt in, and that samples should identify the sender, match the use case, include opt-out language, and contain no custom fields or merge values (Campaign Registration guide).

Here's an example for an HVAC company that only sends conversational, non-marketing texts. It's our own illustration, not HighLevel or carrier wording. Rewrite it to match your real flow:

Use case description (example): "Acme Heating & Air sends customer-care text messages to people who call our business line or request service on acmeheating.com. When a call to our office is missed, we text the caller once to ask how we can help, then reply to their questions about service requests, scheduling, and appointment confirmations. We don't send promotional offers in this campaign. Contacts can reply STOP to opt out or HELP for help."

Sample message 1 (example): "Acme Heating & Air: Sorry we missed your call. How can we help with your heating or cooling? Reply here. Reply STOP to opt out."

Sample message 2 (example): "Acme Heating & Air: Your service visit is confirmed for Tuesday between 8 and 10am. Reply C to confirm or call us to change it. Reply STOP to opt out."

Opt-in is the part to get right. Carriers want to verify how each person agreed to receive your texts. For text-back, the caller dialed you first, but your campaign still has to describe a consent method reviewers can check. Manual Setup lists options including website forms and verbal consent. Describe what actually happens. If you're not sure which option fits a call-triggered text-back flow, ask HighLevel's A2P support before you submit, since a rejected opt-in can't always be fixed by editing (see below).

If you also want to send promotions, don't hide them in a customer-care campaign. HighLevel's opt-in guidance calls for separate, unchecked consent checkboxes for marketing and non-marketing texts, and says submitting a form can't depend on agreeing to texts (HighLevel: How to get your phone number A2P approved in 2026). Chat Widget Setup offers a Mixed option that generates both checkboxes.

What must your website show for A2P approval?

Your website has to prove the business is real and match the brand, and every form that collects phone numbers needs visible Privacy Policy and Terms links. From HighLevel's opt-in compliance article:

  • Business identity: the site clearly shows the same business name (and DBA, if you use one, in the header or footer) and contact details as the brand registration.
  • Consent checkboxes: optional, never pre-checked, and worded to match the use case in your campaign description. HighLevel publishes exact checkbox wording to copy.
  • Privacy Policy: must not mention affiliation or the buying or selling of leads, and must include HighLevel's required clause that mobile information won't be shared with third parties for marketing.
  • Terms & Conditions: must name the business and the messages people will get, explain STOP and HELP, include a carrier-liability line, disclose message frequency and "message and data rates may apply," and link to the Privacy Policy.
  • Matching contact details: the email and phone in your policies should match what you submitted for the brand.

If you use the Chat Widget, HighLevel says it should be the only SMS opt-in form on the submitted page.

How much does A2P registration cost in HighLevel?

As of October 2026, a Low Volume Standard registration costs $22.50 one-time plus $1.50 to $10.50 per month per campaign. Full table from HighLevel's Phone System Pricing & Billing Guide:

Type Daily segment limit Monthly campaign fee One-time registration
Sole Proprietor 3,000 segments/day Up to $2.10/campaign $22.50 (includes $3 Fast Track)
Low Volume Standard 6,000 segments/day $1.50 to $10.50/campaign $22.50 (includes $3 Fast Track)
High Volume Standard 600,000 segments/day $10.50/campaign $64.00 (includes $3 Fast Track)

What to know about these fees:

  • They start when you submit, regardless of whether the campaign is approved. To stop the monthly fee, delete the campaign.
  • The $3 Fast Track fee is non-refundable.
  • Resubmissions are free for eligible rejected campaigns. HighLevel removed the previous $15 resubmission fee on February 1, 2026.
  • No HighLevel markup on A2P fees, per the campaign guide. But if your agency has rebilling turned on, HighLevel adds a fixed 5% to A2P and carrier fees at the sub-account level.

Texts themselves are billed separately, at $0.00747 per segment plus carrier fees. Our GoHighLevel pricing guide puts these in a full monthly budget.

Why do A2P campaigns get rejected?

Mostly because of mismatches, not missing fields. HighLevel says a campaign can fill in every field and still be rejected if the details conflict with business records, the website, the samples, or the real opt-in flow (What is A2P 10DLC).

Problem area Typical cause Fix
Brand Legal name or EIN doesn't match IRS records, wrong address, new EIN, Sole Proprietor chosen despite having a Tax ID Match official records exactly and resubmit
Opt-in and consent Opt-in can't be verified, checkbox is pre-checked or required, disclosures missing Show a public opt-in page or image with the full consent wording
Website Site down or private, different business name, missing Privacy Policy or Terms Publish the pages and make names match everywhere
Use case Description, samples, and real messages don't agree, or the use case doesn't fit the business Rewrite all three so they describe the same program
Sample messages No sender name, no opt-out line, merge fields left in Write realistic samples with your name and "Reply STOP to opt out"
DBA Brand name on the site doesn't match the legal name and no DBA is shown Add the DBA sentence to the description and show the DBA on the site

To see the exact reason, open the rejected campaign in Trust Center and click View required fixes → next to each rejection reason. Fix everything listed, not just the first item, because the next review can find more. Some fields, such as the use case or certain opt-in details, may be locked. In that case HighLevel says you may need a new campaign instead of a resubmission.

What should you check after approval?

Link every sending number to the approved campaign, and confirm it shows the green A2P Verified label under Settings → Phone System → Phone Numbers. HighLevel notes that carrier systems may take several business days to fully update after approval. Repeat the check whenever you buy another local number. An approved campaign with an unlinked number is the classic cause of error 30034.

Then send a real test: call your business line from a phone that isn't saved as a contact, let it ring out, and confirm the text-back arrives. Our plumbing text-back scripts and main template list have messages that fit in one segment.

FAQ

How long does A2P approval take in HighLevel? HighLevel doesn't promise a fixed time. Its brand article says Standard Brand registrations may take several business days, Sole Proprietor registrations are often reviewed faster, and extra verification adds time. Submit on day one of any trial.

Can I text customers before my campaign is approved? Not from an unregistered US local number. HighLevel says compliant messaging uses the A2P route only after the campaign is approved and the number is linked. Toll-free numbers use a separate verification process instead.

Do I need an EIN for A2P registration? No, but without a Tax ID you must use the Sole Proprietor path, which allows one number per campaign and lower daily limits. If you have an EIN, you must register as a Standard Brand.

Can I use a Gmail address? For a Sole Proprietor Brand, you must use a public email such as Gmail. For a Standard Brand, Gmail is accepted, but HighLevel recommends a business-domain email to avoid slower approval.

Does a rejected campaign cost another registration fee? Eligible rejected campaigns can be corrected and resubmitted for free since February 1, 2026. The monthly campaign fee keeps running until you delete the campaign.

Can HighLevel support get my campaign approved? Support can explain required fixes, help you resubmit, and help with an eligible appeal, but HighLevel says it can't guarantee approval or override a carrier's decision.
