GoHighLevel Review (2026): Pros, Cons, Costs and Who Should Skip It
Short answer
HighLevel (GoHighLevel) is an all-in-one CRM, phone system, texting, email, workflow and AI platform. Plans are $97, $297 and $497 a month with unlimited contacts and users, but phone, texts, email and AI are billed as usage from a prepaid wallet. Strengths: one system for missed call text back, follow-up automation and booking, and published pricing. Weaknesses: a big learning curve, stacked usage costs, A2P 10DLC registration before US texting works, and no HIPAA compliance unless you buy a $297 a month add-on. It suits businesses or agencies willing to configure it; it is a poor fit for someone who wants one finished feature working today. This review is based on HighLevel's published pricing and help documentation as checked October 11, 2026, not on a long-term account of our own.
US only: A2P 10DLC registration applies to US phone numbers and US carriers. Texting rules in the UK, EU, Australia, New Zealand and Canada are different (sender ID, number bundles, consent laws), so check your own country’s rules before relying on this.

Most "GoHighLevel reviews" are written by people paid to sign you up, and this one is too, in a sense: Peace Call is a HighLevel affiliate, and links to HighLevel on this page may earn us a commission at no extra cost to you. So here is how we handle it: every claim below comes from HighLevel's own pricing page and help documentation, checked October 11, 2026, and we say plainly where it is a weak fit. We have not run a business on it for a year and we don't claim results.
What is GoHighLevel?
HighLevel (also called GoHighLevel or GHL) is a CRM and marketing platform with a built-in phone system, SMS and email, calendars, workflows, funnels and websites, reputation tools, payments and AI agents. It was built for marketing agencies running many client accounts, and local businesses use it directly. Its core features are the same on all three plans; the plans differ in sub-accounts, rebilling and API access (HighLevel pricing).
For a local service business the part that matters is narrow: a call you miss turns into a text, a contact record and a follow-up, automatically. See our missed call text back guide for that use case.
What does GoHighLevel cost?
| Plan | Monthly | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| Starter | $97 | One business, or up to 3 sub-accounts |
| Unlimited | $297 | Agencies with more than 3 clients |
| Agency Pro | $497 | SaaS mode and rebilling with markup |
All plans list unlimited contacts and users. On top of the plan you pay usage from a wallet: for example a local number is $1.15 a month and SMS is $0.00747 per segment plus carrier fees, per HighLevel's Phone System Pricing guide. Our pricing breakdown works through a one-business bill of roughly $122 to $133 a month on Starter, using HighLevel's published rates. Those are our arithmetic, not a quote.
What are the pros of GoHighLevel?
- One system for the whole missed-lead path. The call, the text, the contact record, the booking and the follow-up workflow all live in one account, so there is little glue to build (Missed Call Text Back).
- Native missed call text back, plus a workflow version. The built-in setting takes minutes; the workflow recipe gives you control over repeats. See our workflow walkthrough.
- Published prices. Plan and usage rates are listed publicly, unlike tools sold only through a sales call (compare GoHighLevel vs. Podium).
- No per-user or per-contact fees on the plan price.
- Optional AI agents. Voice AI can answer after hours and book appointments; see our Voice AI review.
- Plays with other tools. For example, an official integration syncs clients with Jobber (GoHighLevel vs. Jobber).
What are the cons of GoHighLevel?
- Usage costs stack. The plan is only part of the bill. Phone, SMS, email, call recording and AI are metered, and a new account can show a wallet charge such as $20 before any call is made.
- It takes real setup. Number, A2P registration, messages, workflows and testing are all on you. Our first-week setup guide shows the order.
- A2P 10DLC registration comes first. HighLevel says registration is required to send SMS to US recipients from standard local numbers, and rejections come from mismatched information (A2P article). Use our A2P checker before submitting.
- It's a lot of software. If you only want a receptionist or only a texting inbox, you are buying many features you may never open.
- HIPAA isn't on by default. HighLevel describes a $297 a month add-on, account-wide, that can't be cancelled once enabled (HIPAA article). Medical and dental practices should read our dental guide first.
- The built-in missed-call text fires on every missed call, including repeat calls from the same person, unless you use the workflow version (per HighLevel's docs).
- It does not run your jobs. Scheduling crews, invoicing and job costing are field service software territory (vs. Housecall Pro, vs. Jobber).

A good fit:
- A service business losing calls after hours that will spend a week configuring and testing
- An agency that wants one platform for several clients
- Teams already using HighLevel who want to add Voice AI or text back
Consider something else:
- A one-person shop that wants a single finished feature working today
- A business whose main problem is dispatch, quoting and invoicing rather than lead response
- Practices handling health information that won't buy the HIPAA add-on
How do you try it without wasting money?
HighLevel advertises a 14-day free trial on its pricing page; billing starts automatically when it ends, and usage fees can apply during it (see our free trial guide). Pick one job: every missed call gets a text within a minute. Register A2P on day one, test with a call from an outside phone, and look at your wallet before the trial ends. If it caught no real leads, cancel; you've learned that cheaply. Not sure it's worth testing at all? Run the missed call revenue calculator first.
Real-world examples: see published, source-linked results in our HighLevel case studies database. Most are self-reported by the agencies that built them.
FAQ
Is GoHighLevel worth it for a small local business? Only if lost calls or slow follow-up cost you more than the roughly $100 to $135 a month that a one-business setup can run, and you will configure it. Use the calculator to estimate that.
Is GoHighLevel hard to learn? It has many menus. Sticking to one narrow job, such as missed call text back, keeps it manageable.
Does GoHighLevel have a free plan? No free plan is listed on its pricing page. It advertises a 14-day free trial.
Is GoHighLevel better than Podium or Housecall Pro? They overlap only partly. See vs. Podium and vs. Housecall Pro. If you are also looking at a vendor that bundles software with done-for-you marketing, see vs. Thryv.
