GoHighLevel AI Employee Growth vs Unlimited: Break-Even Guide (2026)

Short answer

As of October 2026, HighLevel AI Employee Growth is $50/month per location with 100 Voice AI minutes included; Unlimited is $97/month with unlimited Voice AI subject to fair use. The $47 monthly gap is the break-even budget for Growth overages. At about $0.06 per pay-per-use minute (OpenAI or Cartesia voice), Unlimited starts to win on voice alone around 880+ total minutes a month. Premium voices and Conversation AI overages move that point lower. Phone System charges apply on both plans.

HighLevel (GoHighLevel) sells AI Employee in three ways: pay-per-use, Growth at $50/month, and Unlimited at $97/month, each billed per enabled location (sub-account). For after-hours receptionists and agency client accounts, the real question is usually Growth versus Unlimited: when does the flat $97 plan beat Growth plus overages?

This guide uses HighLevel's official AI Product Pricing and AI Employee plans articles as checked on October 5, 2026. What's the difference between AI Employee Growth and Unlimited?

Growth is a lower monthly fee with capped Voice AI and Conversation AI allowances; Unlimited is a higher flat fee with those meters included subject to fair use. Both still bill Phone System usage separately.

Direct answer from HighLevel's docs: Unlimited does include Voice AI for inbound, outbound, and the widget — not only Conversation AI — and the 100 Growth minutes are shared across those same three Voice AI channels.

How much do Growth overages cost after 100 Voice AI minutes?

After the 100-minute Growth allowance, HighLevel bills Voice AI at the same pay-per-use formula used on the no-subscription plan: minutes × (Voice Engine + selected TTS rate) + LLM token cost.

From the AI Product Pricing page (rates effective April–May 2026 as listed there):

Component Official rate
Voice Engine $0.045/min (May 20, 2026 onward)
OpenAI TTS $0.015/min
Cartesia TTS $0.015/min
ElevenLabs V2.5 $0.035/min
ElevenLabs V3 $0.170/min
LLM tokens Varies by model (billed per 1M tokens)

Common all-in AI minute (before tokens and phone):

Voice choice Voice Engine + TTS Approx. AI cost / min before tokens
OpenAI or Cartesia $0.045 + $0.015 ≈$0.06/min
ElevenLabs V2.5 $0.045 + $0.035 ≈$0.08/min
ElevenLabs V3 $0.045 + $0.170 ≈$0.215/min

HighLevel's own example: a 10-minute call with OpenAI TTS comes to $0.60 before LLM tokens and Phone System charges. Speech-to-speech (S2S) models are listed separately at $0.10/min (Google gemini-3.1-flash-live-preview) and $0.20/min (OpenAI gpt-realtime-2/2.1).

Phone charges sit on top of every plan. HighLevel's Phone System Pricing Guide lists a US local number at about $1.15/month and US inbound minutes around $0.01165/min, billed in full minutes rounded up. Those cancel out of a Growth-vs-Unlimited comparison because they apply either way.

When does Unlimited beat Growth? (break-even)

Unlimited costs $47 more per month than Growth ($97 − $50). Growth is cheaper until your Growth overages (Voice AI past 100 minutes, Conversation AI past 1,000 responses, and other capped meters) add up to more than that $47.

Voice-only break-even formula

For a location that is mostly Voice AI, with Conversation AI still under 1,000 responses:

Break-even total Voice AI minutes ≈ 100 + ($47 ÷ overage rate per minute)

Assumed overage rate (illustration) Overage minutes that spend $47 Approx. total minutes where Unlimited ties Growth on voice
≈$0.06/min (OpenAI / Cartesia TTS) ≈783 ≈883 minutes/month
≈$0.08/min (ElevenLabs V2.5) ≈588 ≈688 minutes/month
≈$0.215/min (ElevenLabs V3) ≈219 ≈319 minutes/month
$0.10/min (listed Google S2S rate) ≈470 ≈570 minutes/month
$0.20/min (listed OpenAI S2S rate) ≈235 ≈335 minutes/month

These thresholds ignore LLM token overages on Growth. Tokens push Unlimited's advantage earlier. They also ignore Conversation AI, Reviews AI, Content AI, and Prompt Optimizer overages — Unlimited covers those under fair use, so mixed-usage locations break even sooner than a voice-only estimate.

Worked example (labeled illustration)

Illustration only — not a quote or benchmark. Assume one HVAC client sub-account already on a HighLevel platform plan, using OpenAI TTS (≈$0.06/min AI before tokens), staying under 1,000 Conversation AI responses, and logging these Voice AI minutes in a month:

Scenario Voice AI minutes Growth AI cost Unlimited AI cost Cheaper AI plan
Light after-hours 80 $50 (under allowance) $97 Growth (saves $47)
Typical overflow 250 $50 + 150 × $0.06 = $59 $97 Growth (saves $38)
Busy season 900 $50 + 800 × $0.06 = $98 $97 Unlimited (saves ≈$1 before tokens)
Storm / promo surge 1,500 $50 + 1,400 × $0.06 = $134 $97 Unlimited (saves ≈$37)

Same minutes with ElevenLabs V3 (≈$0.215/min before tokens):

Scenario Voice AI minutes Growth AI cost Unlimited AI cost Cheaper AI plan
Typical overflow 250 $50 + 150 × $0.215 = ≈$82 $97 Growth (saves ≈$15)
Busy season 400 $50 + 300 × $0.215 = ≈$115 $97 Unlimited (saves ≈$18)

Readouts from your AI Suite and wallet will differ once LLM tokens, premium Workflow AI actions, and taxes are included. Use the illustration to set a monitoring threshold, then switch plans from actual invoices.

What else should you factor in besides Voice AI minutes?

Voice minutes are only one meter. These HighLevel rules often decide Growth vs Unlimited before the break-even table does.

  1. Conversation AI overages. Growth includes 1,000 Agent responses/month; Unlimited does not meter them the same way (fair use). A chat-heavy sub-account can burn through Growth even with light phone volume.
  2. Inbound, outbound, and widget share one Growth bucket. HighLevel states the 100 Growth minutes cover all three. Outbound dialers and website voice widgets consume the same allowance as inbound reception.
  3. Fair use on Unlimited. "Unlimited" is subject to HighLevel's Terms of Service and excessive-use rules. HighLevel may throttle, limit, require upgrades, or terminate access for abusive or platform-harming usage.
  4. Agent Studio is never included. It stays pay-per-use on Pay-Per-Use, Growth, and Unlimited.
  5. Phone System is never included. Unlimited Voice AI does not mean free telephony. Number rental and per-minute phone charges still appear on the bill.
  6. Per location, not per agency. Ten client sub-accounts on Unlimited is $970/month in AI Employee fees alone, on top of the platform plan ($97 / $297 / $497).
  7. Rebilling vs reselling. HighLevel's docs say agencies must be on the $497/month plan to rebill AI Employee usage. Reselling Growth or Unlimited as a client subscription is configured separately under Reselling.

Which plan should you pick?

Match the plan to measured minutes and chat volume for that location, not to a vendor default.

Situation Sensible starting plan
Under ~100 Voice AI minutes/month and light chat Growth (or even pay-per-use if you barely use AI)
100–700 Voice AI minutes with a cheap TTS voice Usually Growth; watch the AI Suite for overages
Premium voice (e.g. ElevenLabs V3) past ~300 minutes Lean Unlimited sooner
800–900+ Voice AI minutes/month at ≈$0.06/min, or heavy Conversation AI Unlimited
Many client locations with uneven usage Growth on quiet accounts, Unlimited on busy ones — enable per location
You need Agent Studio heavily Plan choice won't help; budget tokens separately

How should you measure real break-even in your account?

Don't trust a spreadsheet alone. HighLevel's agency-level AI Suite shows spend, tokens, and product-level usage so you can compare Growth overages to the $47 Unlimited premium with your own numbers.

  1. Pick one sub-account and note its current AI plan.
  2. Run Voice AI for 2–4 weeks on a realistic schedule (after-hours plus overflow).
  3. In Agency View → AI Suite, export or screenshot Voice AI minutes, Conversation AI responses, and pay-per-use charges for that location.
  4. Add Phone System charges separately so they don't muddy the AI comparison.
  5. Compute: Growth fee + AI overages versus $97 Unlimited. Switch only if Unlimited wins for two consecutive months, or if a known busy season is about to start.
  6. Re-check after any voice-model or TTS change — that dropdown is often a bigger lever than the plan itself.

FAQ

Is AI Employee Unlimited really unlimited for Voice AI? HighLevel's docs say Unlimited includes Voice AI for inbound, outbound, and the widget, subject to fair use. Phone System charges still apply, and Agent Studio remains pay-per-use.

Does the 100-minute Growth allowance cover outbound and widget calls? Yes. HighLevel states the 100 AI Agent minutes are shared across inbound phone, outbound phone, and the Voice AI widget.

What happens when Growth hits 100 Voice AI minutes? Additional Voice AI usage bills at pay-per-use rates unless the location's AI Usage Limit is set to block AI at the limit. Confirm Keep AI running vs Block AI in your spending settings.

Do I still pay for phone minutes on Unlimited? Yes. Unlimited covers the AI portion of supported Voice AI usage (fair use). Telecommunications / Phone System charges are separate on every plan.

Is the $50 or $97 fee per agency or per client? Per enabled location (sub-account). An agency with many clients pays the AI Employee fee for each location that has the plan enabled.

Does Unlimited include Agent Studio? No. HighLevel's pricing article says Agent Studio is pay-per-use across Pay-Per-Use, Growth, and Unlimited.

Can agencies rebill AI Employee to clients? HighLevel's docs say rebilling AI Employee usage requires the $497/month agency plan. Reselling Growth or Unlimited as a subscription is configured under Reselling and is separate from usage rebilling.

Should a brand-new HighLevel user start on Unlimited? Usually no. Start on Growth or pay-per-use, measure two to four weeks of real minutes and chat volume, then upgrade if overages approach or pass the $47 gap.
